I’ve recently been introduced to alkaline living by Richard Davidson. I found him to be a most fascinating man who continues to lead a remarkable life at 80 years young. He is one of those people who when you meet them you just instantly know they are good people. He is just very honest and very real in his mannerisms and in the way he speaks. After all, a good long life is the ultimate goal; and it is only human to want to learn about ways to accomplish that goal.

In listening to Richard I learned there are five basic elements of health. These elements are AIR, WATER, FOOD, SUPPLEMENTS AND MINDSET. The next thing I learned is that to build and maintain my health, I must learn what my body pH is. Also, to maintain a pH balance in my body between 7.1 and 14.0. While 7 is considered neutral, Anything below 7 is acidic and will open me up to illness and disease. After hearing and looking at what Richard spoke about I started researching the internet on my own. What I found was not really surprising. As with almost all health concepts, lifestyles or diets, the research is pretty conflicting. I’m grateful for this new knowledge and my plan forward is to compare the ALKALINE LIFESTYLE with what seems to benefit me personally. What I can personalize and personally confirm.

ALKALINE AIR

When you breathe deeply you not only work to alkalize your body directly by increasing oxygen intake, relieving stress, and cleansing your body of toxins, you also work indirectly to alkalize your body by improving digestion! Breathing deeply is one of the most effective ways to alkalize your body. Personally I find that combining meditation or yoga with deep breathing techniques allows my to alkalize my body in two ways, with the air, and with my mindset. BENEFITS OF ALKALINE WATER

All you need to do is watch almost any news show where they cover a story about city water, or purification facilities and you start to get pretty nervous about what’s in your water. My family has spent the last 20 years buying flats of bottled water from the store and lugging it home. All of them have good and bad about them. In looking at the strictly alkaline diet I have to be honest and say it probably is not for me. Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of great foods listed on the alkaline food chart that I love… some I even crave at certain times.

My feeling is that what we eat is an individual thing. What works for some doesn’t work for everyone because our bodies are different… our lifestyles are different. So my approach to the food aspect of the alkaline lifestyle is common sense, leaning more toward the good for you foods than the bad. One big thing that I appreciate about the Alkaline Diet is that it approves of wine. I’ll stretch this out a bit and say that FINE WINE made properly is a great health food. As with alkaline air above, where I stated that by incorporating yoga or meditation I can gain an alkaline mental state, I can also improve my mental state with supplements.
