TODAY MANY PEOPLE ARE LEAVING THEIR JOBS AND CHOOSING TO CREATE A HOME BUSINESS. Learning about HOME BUSINESS TRUTHS is difficult. Online searches leave you uninformed, unless you pay to “learn more”. That is not what this article is.
CREATING A HOME BUSINESS CAN BE PROFITABLE AND REWARDING, provided you go into your business with eyes wide open. If you are tired of looking and finding only offers that want to up-sell you for information, believe me so was I. That is not what this article is. If you look online there are thousands of programs available, and I’ve gone through quite a few. Virtually all of these programs tell you up front that they can’t guarantee you’ll make money, and that is true. It all depends on you and how well you “work the program”. While I believe I’ve found the best home business, I want to expose some of the shortcomings of what is out there today. Then I’ll be getting back to what I found.
SO MANY OPTIONS/SO LITTLE INFORMATION
Below are several home business options. You can do your research on each type, unfortunately these days, there is usually more bad than good about any single person or company because anyone can post just about anything on the net today. These are some of my personal drawback observations having tried so many ways to make money with a home business. Then I’m going to invite you into a NO OBLIGATION conversation. TRADING YOUR TALENT AND TIME FOR DOLLARS
Even if you have a talent or a trade that you can work on at home, consider that your income will be based completely on your talent and your time. If you are sick or injured the income stops. Even if you stay healthy, you will still need to market your business. Contrary to the movie, if you build it, they may not come. What I mean is that nothing sells itself, you have to market it… let people know what you have, where you have it and convince them why they should buy it from you. Before you give up on your dreams, read on – I’ve tried almost all of the home business models and finally found something good and real. Finally I have support, training and success!!!
I started my search for the perfect business of my own at the age of 15… before i even was able to drive a car. While I made money with each of my efforts, but I could not ever make a living, much less become wealthy. Quick secret… even if you think you can do just a home business, you are still going to need the computer to track and promote your business.
BEFORE STARTING A HOME BUSINESS… ASK YOURSELF WHY!
Be honest with yourself. Are you considering a home business as a “hobby’ income, side income, or are you planning on replacing your current income? …OR, ARE YOU LOOKING FOR WEALTH? Any of these reasons are all more than acceptable reasons for a home business. The thing is, you have to be honest with yourself and go into business with your eyes wide open. Three years ago I started an ‘out of my home’ home business in a field that I have been passionate about my entire life. The problem was that though it was a field I loved, and a field I was very good at, it was not a lucrative field. Again, there I was, barely breaking even. In addition, this was a short-lived occupation once Covid hit the world… and my time off forced me to face the fact that it is an occupation for younger fools.
YOU CAN STILL EMBRACE YOUR PASSION BY FEEDING IT WITH A HOME BUSINESS
So once again I started searching the internet, looking for my answer. I was looking for something that would allow me to make not just a livable income, but an excess income that I could apply to my passion. I realized I couldn’t get wealthy with my passion, but there had to be something out there that would allow me the wealth to support my passion.
WILL YOUR HOME BUSINESS NEED SPACE FOR PROVIDING YOUR SERVICE OR STORING YOUR PRODUCTS?
My neighbor has a home business, he’s a mechanic. The problem is that he’s in suburbia and always has 5 or 6 cars parked in front of his house. He’s very dedicated to his home business but that dedication keeps most of the neighborhood awake half the night.
Another neighbor sells products out of his garage. He must have great faith in the product as it completely fills his two car garage. He runs ads in the paper and puts out flyers and we have cars coming and going up and down the street looking for his garage.
NONE OF THAT IS TRUE
At least not totally true. I do know of both of these situations. I only put it up there to make a point. You should consider just what type of home business you are starting or getting into. Consider the space required and the skills needed to conduct your business.
MARKETING YOUR HOME BUSINESS TODAY REQUIRES THE INTERNET
THIS PART IS TRUE. To have a successful home business you not only need the skills to create or sell a product, in addition, you will need the ability to operate at least a half-way good computer and the knowledge to market yourself on the internet. What’s great about what I’m doing now is that even computer training is readily and FREELY available.
If all you can do is check email and occasionally copy and paste YOU CAN LEARN what you need to succeed. After we run through possible ways to make money online, look for the breakdown of just what your start up and monthly business overhead will run you. Then look at what I found and just how little my monthly overhead is!!! IF AT ANY TIME THIS ALL SEEMS TOO MUCH AND YOUR HEAD STARTS TO SPIN, GO AHEAD AND FEEL FREE TO SCROLL DOWN FOR THE BOTTOM LINE.
Drop Ship
This is a “hot” popular item for making money. On the surface it seems to be an easy, quick way to start up your business. In practice, however, drop shipping is better suited as a supplement to an existing online business. Dropshipping is an order fulfillment method that does not require you to keep products in stock. You order through a third party who ships the order to the customer.
Your inventory and overhead is low, but so are the returns. You have to do a lot of business just to stay afloat, let alone make a profit. If you contract with several companies, you have to negotiate and track each one separately. So even though it is your business and your money creating a website and marketing program, you are marketing someone elses’ product. Return customers are unlikely because they will remember the product company before they remember your website.
Like ghostwriters or behind-the-scenes songwriters, dropshippers must understand that the credit for their work goes to someone else.
MLM
Multi-level marketing, sometimes referred to as network marketing. Companies typically give you several ways to earn and the best earnings come when you (1) use the products yourself and become your own customer (2) market the product to others and (3) you can recruit others and duplicate your efforts. Most multi-level marketing companies give you a percentage of whatever sales those underneath you make. With each level that comes in underneath you, you earn a higher percentage of the sale’s profit. The company does provide a training program, but I’ve invested in some that also require you to pay for subsequent training and motivation.
Most MLM’s are not a pyramid scheme, because your earnings are based on the sale of actual products. If you want to start your own business or become your own boss, multi-level marketing is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to do so. You will have to invest some money up front with a sign-up fee. This amount depends on the company but is based on the premise that if you have to pay for the business you are more likely to work the business. The amount can be fairly low or can reach in to hundreds of dollars. But consider, if you were to buy a small business franchise… say a Subway Shop, you would spend over $100,000 and need a net worth 5 times that amount just to be approved.
HOME PARTY SALES
Home party sales are as big and booming as ever… even with the recent pandemic, new companies offering direct selling through home parties or online websites pop up daily. Like other home businesses, this gives you the flexibility of working your own hours from home or in booking parties with “hostesses’.
The Hostess is the person inviting his/her friends to join the home party (or maybe they just pass a catalog and order page around the office). Then the representative rewards the hostess with free or low cost merchandise in exchange for arranging the party… this is best done with the biggest audience of the hostesses invited guests because then the guests are given the option to host their own party. When the guest becomes the hostess, they get free or low cost merchandise and the circle continues on.
If you choose to do “parties” remember it will cost you in time and gas. Additionally, you will have to take “demo-products” with you. This means you will carry them in and set up the demo table. Then you give your presentation, take the orders, and promote becoming a hostess. After all that you pack up and carry the demo-products back to your car. Once home and unpacked, you complete your order to the company… it’s a lot of work.
AFFILIATE MARKETING
What are the disadvantages of affiliate marketing? It depends greatly on who you affiliate with. Again, these are all over the internet. The biggest is Amazon but over time, their compensations have reduced as their name gained more prominence. They no longer really need someone else to promote them.
Like dropshipping, you will again be a third party promoting another company. If you go through something like ClickBank you can pick up several affiliates. But be aware of compensation AND there you are again, building a website from scratch and having to figure out how to market your website out into the world.
SELLING ON EBAY OR OTHER SIMILAR SITE
If you are looking for more of a social activity from home. Going through the back room and selecting things to sell on eBay is a great way to clean house. You will need to consider what shipping and handling will run you and eBay has certain requirements and restrictions.
There are some businesses that market solely on ebay. Many refurbished computer or electronic venders are there. You can get some great deals from a reputable seller. The computer I use is a refurbished computer and I’ve never had a problem. I paid a lot less for it than if I had purchased it at a computer store or even a big market store like walmart or target.
The problem is that this is a hit or miss type way to sell online. It involves some research into the item or items you are listing. And it requires an organization of time to monitor auctions and for boxing and shipping items. I do, however, know people who make a hobby income just shopping for deals. Then they turn around and reselling them for more.

It’s pretty obvious I picked out most of the negative or problem aspects to working from home. That’s because it can be hard and negative. But I’ve found a system that brings together just about all of the GOOD STUFF of the above methods. Before we get to that, however, let’s take a real good look at the cost of creating a website as well as the cost of hosting and maintenance.
You can find web building sites that provide a website for anywhere from a few dollars to several thousand dollars. With the cheaper sites, watch out for the “add ons”. These include charging almost nothing for the first year but jump up after you’ve come to rely on them. Maintenance and hosting for an e-commerce site can cost up to $50,000… but they do include an annual maintenance cost for the site you choose.
AND AS WE SAID BEFORE, you can have a top of the line website but if you don’t know how to market that site it’s all for nothing.
You need to also consider time and training to keep your site current, especially if you’ve selected any of the ever changing methods outlined above. I mean, consider you build a website around either a dropship company or have selected a few affiliate ventures. What happens if any of those companies go out of business? There you are with a website that actually has nothing to offer. Most MLM’s offer training, but are usually based on one or two models of success. They are locked in to training one way that can easily be outdated by the next step in technology. AND, when technology changes will your site become obsolete or will you have to pay for an upgrade?
BRING IT ALL TOGETHER AND BUILD AS BIG AS YOU CAN DREAM!!!
While all of the above options for home business are different… they will all require you to create some type of online connection to potential clients or customers. And that is BEFORE you even begin to “advertise” your site and begin to get traffic.
